Most of the taxable fixed income portfolios are managed utilizing a disciplined set of parameters that create a laddered maturity portfolio. This five to six year ladder includes investment grade, non-callable corporate bonds that are held until maturity and is intended to continually capture fluctuations in the yield curve. Historically the result of this strategy has been to produce yields 3-5% above the rate of inflation. This approach is typically used in IRA and pension accounts in an effort to conservatively generate consistent growth in excess of inflation.
The laddered portfolio is occasionally supplemented with longer term corporate and government bonds when market conditions present appropriate opportunities.
Individual portfolios allocated to this strategy are managed
